Pepperstone Appoints Nigel Fernandes as CTO to Drive Technology Expansion

Pepperstone has appointed Nigel Fernandes as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), strengthening its technology leadership as the global broker expands its proprietary technology capabilities and broader fintech offering.

Fernandes will join the company on October 1, 2026, and will lead global engineering, architecture, security, and data functions. He will report to Group CEO Tamas Szabo and be based at Pepperstone's headquarters in Melbourne.

He joins from Xero, where he serves as SVP and Executive General Manager of Engineering, leading global teams across cloud platforms, customer identity, and data. He previously held senior technology roles at Publicis Sapient, Coles Group, SEEK, and Envato.

Fernandes brings more than 20 years of technology leadership experience across financial services, retail, media, and enterprise software. At Pepperstone, he will focus on strengthening the company's proprietary technology and building an AI-native engineering foundation as the broker expands into crypto and new markets.

Pepperstone CEO Tamas Szabo said technology is central to the company's client experience and broader strategy, adding that Fernandes' experience building high-performing engineering teams would support the next stage of growth.

The appointment comes as brokers increasingly invest in proprietary technology, AI, data, and infrastructure to improve client experiences and support international expansion.
