Malaysian Police Detects Fake NSRC Facebook Accounts, Urges Public to Avoid Engagement

The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has identified two fake Facebook accounts falsely claiming to represent the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC):

  • https://www.facebook.com/share/1AtT2fRmzBl (is unavailable currently)

Beware: fake NSRC Facebook page

Authorities warn that NSRC does not operate any social media platforms, including Facebook. These fraudulent accounts have been used to mislead the public and may attempt to solicit personal or banking information or request financial transactions.

PDRM emphasizes that NSRC functions strictly as a one-way communication call center, receiving calls from the public only. It does not initiate contact via phone, WhatsApp, or any messaging apps. Any communication claiming to be from NSRC is purely fraudulent.

The public is strongly advised not to share sensitive information or conduct financial transactions based on messages or calls from these fake accounts.

To strengthen fraud prevention efforts, PDRM urges victims of online scams to report incidents immediately via the NSRC 997 hotline. Reports made within 24 hours significantly improve the chances of blocking transferred funds.

The Royal Malaysia Police remains committed to protecting the public from cybercrime and financial fraud. On August 13, the police conducted a raid and arrested four foreign nationals who perpetrated a romance scam.
