KCM Trade’s Tim Waterer Returns to Bloomberg to Discuss Fed Rates, Gold, USD/JPY and Treasury Yields

2 hours ago BrokersView

KCM Trade Chief Market Analyst Tim Waterer recently returned to Bloomberg Sydney’s Asia Trade to share his views on U.S. employment data, inflation, Federal Reserve policy, gold, technology stocks, the Japanese yen and U.S. Treasury yields.

The discussion examined several factors influencing global markets, with Waterer assessing recent economic developments and their potential implications for major asset classes.

U.S. Employment Data and Fed Rate Outlook

Commenting on the latest U.S. employment data, Waterer noted that while overall employment remains relatively strong, slower wage growth could add to uncertainty surrounding the inflation outlook.

With markets awaiting further inflation data, Waterer suggested that the Federal Reserve may remain cautious about adjusting interest rates in the near term. He also highlighted crude oil prices as an important factor that could influence inflation and future monetary-policy decisions.

Gold and Technology Stocks in Focus

Waterer also discussed gold and the technology sector. He noted that geopolitical developments and uncertainty surrounding inflation could continue to support gold prices, while movements in the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields remain important influences on the precious metal.

In the technology sector, relatively favourable supply-and-demand conditions for chip manufacturers, alongside resilient corporate revenue performance, continue to support the sector’s fundamentals.

Japanese Yen and U.S. Treasury Yields

On the Japanese yen, Waterer suggested that a potential near-term low may be gradually forming. However, the outlook for USD/JPY remains dependent on the U.S.-Japan interest-rate differential, expectations for Japanese monetary policy and the possibility of market intervention.

He also noted that U.S. Treasury yields remain influenced by inflation expectations, crude oil prices and government debt levels. As an important benchmark for global asset pricing, changes in Treasury yields can have broader implications for the U.S. dollar, gold and risk-sensitive assets.

Waterer’s latest Bloomberg appearance comes as markets continue to assess the interaction between inflation, monetary policy and global economic conditions, highlighting the importance of economic data and policy expectations in shaping the outlook for major financial markets.
