Clients in the UK, Singapore, Australia, and other regions were locked out of their accounts during the critical pre-market window on yesterday, August 24.

IG, a major online trading platform, experienced a widespread login failure shortly before the US stock market opened on August 24. According to Downdetector, user complaints surged around 9:00 AM ET, as traders found themselves unable to access both web and mobile apps.

Many users took to social media and Reddit to express frustration, with some warning that the outage prevented them from closing open positions. “I can’t log in – and I have trades to close,” one user posted.

IG acknowledged the issue on its status page, saying it was investigating “with the highest priority.” The company advised affected clients to contact support by phone for urgent trade closures. Later in the session, IG confirmed that access had been restored and that it was monitoring systems closely.

The disruption adds to a series of technical glitches affecting broker platforms this year, including recent outages at Interactive Brokers and Robinhood. As of press time, all IG services were reportedly back to normal.
