CNMV Warns Investors About Multiple Unauthorised Investment and Crypto Platforms

Spain’s financial regulator, the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), has issued a public warning against a group of online platforms found to be operating without authorisation. According to the CNMV, the firms listed below are not permitted to provide investment services, foreign exchange trading, or crypto-asset services in Spain, as required under the Securities Markets and Investment Services Act (Law 6/2023) and the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).

The CNMV stated that these entities are offering services related to financial instruments, including foreign currency transactions, and in several cases crypto-asset services that are legally reserved for authorised providers. None of the platforms named have obtained the prior approval required to operate in Spain, meaning investors who engage with them are not protected under Spanish or EU investor protection frameworks.

Regulators have noted that such unauthorised platforms often target investors through professionally designed websites and online trading interfaces, sometimes claiming regulatory compliance or international registration to appear legitimate. These claims can be misleading. Investors may face heightened risks including loss of funds, restricted withdrawals, misuse of personal data, and lack of access to dispute resolution or compensation schemes.

The CNMV strongly advises investors to exercise extreme caution when approached by online trading or crypto investment platforms, especially those promising high or guaranteed returns. Investors are reminded to verify whether a firm is authorised by consulting the CNMV’s official registers before transferring any funds or sharing personal or financial information.
