Germany's Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) has issued new warnings against several unauthorised websites and email-based investment schemes suspected of offering financial and crypto-asset services without the required authorisation.
The regulator said the cases include unauthorised investment services, crypto-asset offerings, fraudulent fixed-term deposit promotions and identity misuse involving a well-known financial institution. BaFin noted that some operators concealed their true identities or falsely claimed associations with legitimate firms, making it difficult for consumers to determine who they were dealing with.
BaFin reminded investors that banking, financial, securities and crypto-asset services may only be provided in Germany by firms holding the appropriate regulatory authorisation. It urged consumers to verify whether a provider is licensed before investing.
